China’s CSPM and PRINCE2 Project Management launch the process for formal framework alignment

Formal integration of PRINCE2 Project Management with China's local project management standard, CSPM, has received the official go-ahead.

Following a mutual recognition cooperation agreement signed by PeopleCert and the China Association for Standardization (CAS) in 2024, the organisations will now undertake a framework alignment between PRINCE2 Project Management and CSPM.

This integration will both enhance the international recognition of China's project management standards and open a dual certification pathway for domestic CSPM professionals.

The mutual recognition between PRINCE2 Project Management and CSPM provides practitioners with a more convenient career development path, promoting exchange and cooperation in the project management field both domestically and internationally. It also supports the Chinese project management industry’s internationalisation.

Chinese project managers are facing unprecedented challenges with the continuous emergence of artificial intelligence, new technologies, processes and materials, coupled with the increasingly urgent demand for sustainable development. Equally, large enterprises and institutions are implementing and refining project management best practices across their entire systems, making the integration of international certifications and local standards even more significant.

Mr. Yu Biao, Secretary-General of the National Technical Committee for Project Management Standardisation, stated: "With its local applicability and cost-effectiveness, CSPM has seen its certified professionals exceed 100,000 in just two years, demonstrating strong growth momentum. This collaboration with PeopleCert provides a fast track for CSPM and PRINCE2 Project Management certificate holders to obtain each other's certifications, while also building a bridge from local standards to globally-recognised project management standards."

The mutual recognition between CSPM and PRINCE2 Project Management broadens international attention to, and provides a global perspective for, the Chinese standard. At the same time, integrating PRINCE2 Project Management's mature method and current concepts helps CSPM improve its approach, optimise standards, enhance professional depth and lead the development of local project management.

Petros Apergis, Vice President PRINCE2 at PeopleCert, said: "The alignment between PRINCE2 Project Management and CSPM is of extraordinary significance: providing a convenient pathway for Chinese professionals to obtain international certifications and helping organisations and enterprises to meet certification requirements in project bidding more effectively."

The mutual recognition between CSPM and PRINCE2 Project Management also enhances the latter’s cultural adaptability by absorbing CSPM’s local practices and unique ways of thinking. These approaches will complement PRINCE2 Project Management’s existing concepts, support alignment with local project management requirements across the world and offer global project management practitioners a more comprehensive and diverse knowledge system.
